The European market is known to be of equal value while the Asian and
Australian markets combined equal a little less than half that amount. There
is a worldwide demand for approximately 15 million recreational tents per
year. Of this amount, roughly 20% or 3 million tents would fall into the
price range of the Airzone line, which is at the high end of the market.
That translates into a North American Demand of about 1,400,000 tents in
each year in the styles and price ranges where Airzone is planning to
compete.
Technology
The technology behind the pneumatic supports is similar to that of an
automobile or bicycle tire. Each pneumatic pole contains a rubber inner tube
covered by tough and resistant marine polyester, the same material that has
been used for boat covers for the last 30 years. Because of the small amount
of pressure required, many air sources can be used to inflate the supports,
including air – tanks, 12 volt air-compressors, C02 dispensers, a
spare tire, or even a bicycle pump.
Performance
Airzone has
tested, developed, and perfected the technology behind their product, for
the past years. The most recent tests included placing a deflated support
under the wheel of a half-ton truck off the ground.
A rigidity test is demonstrated in the photo below, where a 53 lb kayak was
placed on top of the Airzone 2 man tent, which easily supported its weight.
These pneumatic supports have been subjected to rigorous testing and are
extremely durable. Field tests on Airzone tents include exposure to
torrential downpours, extreme winter temperatures in heavy snow, and 40-mph
winds.
Intellectual
Property
The
pneumatic pole system was granted full U.S. and Canada Patent approval in
2001, as well as preliminary patent acknowledgement in 14 European
countries, Japan, and Australia.
